EQUIFAX HACKED-What Now?

Other

Hopefully you are already on this but just in case, I have some helpful links below.

Chuck,

Today Equifax announced that it had been breached back in July and as many as 143 million US consumers are impacted. The company is offering free credit monitoring for those impacted by this breach.

What to do now:

Find out if you are at risk – Equifax has a link to check but it is flawed. (unfortunately, this has proven to be unreliable)

Sign up for credit monitoring – alerts consumer if anyone checks their credit or opens a new account (available through all bureaus, or use a service like Life Lock)

Freeze your accounts – no new accounts can be opened. (call each credit bureau)

Check your accounts yourself. (time consuming)

Opt out of prescreened offers –this will prevent the credit bureaus from selling your information.

To freeze your credit. Equifax (1-800-349-9960), Experian (1‑888‑397‑3742) and TransUnion (1-888-909-8872)
